I can’t believe we’re just about a week away from leaving for outreach with the team. There’s lots of last-minute prep, planning, shopping, etc., happening here!
A couple things stood out to me profoundly this week (class topic was The Cross):
One was the term “unmerited favor” in reference to God’s love for us. I kept thinking of these words and how we are to offer this same love to those around us. This was convenient as little irritations came up this week with living with others in community… I kept coming back to this thought “unmerited favor”. It’s so natural to only love the lovable or those who at least aren’t being annoying at the moment, but this requires nothing supernatural…
The other was the working definition of perfection from class: living up to the light (truth) you have from a right motivation (love) of heart. (Hmmm, another reason why we cannot rightfully judge others-we neither know the light they have [not just head knowledge, but heart knowledge], nor can we truly know their motivation.) The following day I read Col. 1:10 which reiterated this definition: That you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, FULLY PLEASING [perfect] to Him and desiring to please [motivation] Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily GROWING and INCREASING in the knowledge of God–with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance and recognition (AMP). I’m not sure if that all makes sense, or if it’s a case of having to be in class to get the gist, but it’s an attempt to pass on what I learned this week.
Please pray for us this week as we wrap up our time here in SF and prepare for the next phase of the journey. Love to all and thanks for your support! Sorry this got so long .
