So tramping was the most challenging thing I’ve ever experienced. For the most part I’ve always considered myself to be pretty tough. After climbing several mountains with occasional rain showers, crazy food rations, and a 50 lb backpack, I found out how tough I really am. The truth is that while I was in college one of my biggest struggles was finishing things I started.

One morning on our hike, I began praying and spending time with the Lord. He began speaking to me and comforting me like never before. I think what I was experiencing must have been similar to how Adam & Eve felt as they walked through the garden with God. Later that day I was feeling very tired. I began praying again and ask for God to give me strength. I specifically asked Him to take control of my legs. Then the thought entered my mind to ask Him to lighten my load, but I didn’t ask for that. For the first time that I can remember I didn’t ask for an easy way out. Instead I said, “God don’t lighten my load and don’t make this easy for me. Show me that You are strong when I am weak.”  It was an awesome revelation.

Below are some lyrics from the song “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns. I find great comfort and encouragement in these words. I hope that they speak to your heart the same way they have to mine.

“Oh what I would do to have the kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant, with just a sling and stone. Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors shaking in their armor, wishing they’d had the strength to stand. But the giant’s calling out my name and he laughs at me. Reminding me of all the times I’ve tried before and failed. The giant keeps on telling me time and time again boy, you’ll never win, you’ll never win.

But the voice of Truth tells me a different story. The voice of Truth says do not be afraid. And the voice of Truth says this is for my glory. Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.”
