On Saturday, February 11, we left Mozambique around 12pm
to head to our next country: The Kingdom of Swaziland. We piled 27 people into
a bus with 28 seats, which had 8 seats full of our bags, and started the
journey. Thankfully this bus had windows so we could get some fresh air. Jessie
and I took turns standing on the seat so we could fit. After about 3 hours we
reached the Mozambique/Swaziland border. Everything went smoothly getting
everyone’s passport stamped and we were ready to enter Swaziland when Nick (the
other logistics guy) told me that our Mozambiquean driver did not have his
passport.
After a couple of hours of the driver trying to negotiate
his way across the border it was decided that he would get us a new driver. However,
it was already getting late and the border closed at 8pm. A storm had rolled in
and the power kept going off. Oh, and did I mention that the driver and most of
the border staff spoke only Portuguese?!
At about 7:35pm, through thick fog, a van pulled up next
to us with a new driver! He quickly and successfully went through border
customs and right as 8 o’clock rolled around, we exited the border gate! God is
so good!
We
spent the next 8 hours driving through marked and unmarked, paved and unpaved
roads of Swaziland to reach our destination: El Shaddai Ministries. The whole
trip lasted about 16 hours and included the bus stalling out on a steep dirt
hill in the rain just sly of a mile from our ministry. However, once again, God
provided two random guys to help us push start the bus at three in the morning.
We serve a God that is always looking out for us!!
