This was our first official Team Collision video that Jeff and I made describing our month, and we hope it gives you an idea of what life is like for us on the field. God did so much this month and showed us even more of who He is and how to care for His people, it was amazing!
But there are some great things that happened after we stopped filming, like travelling for a week between Peru and Bolivia. Our travelling literally lasted almost a whole week!! On September 10th we left Chepen for Lake Titicaca and then headed on over to Bolivia for our next month, but if only travelling was that easy!!
First travelling with 57 people can be a little hectic, especially for Cory since he is one of two logistic leaders. His job is to make sure we have buses, hostels, money, visas, and everyone accounted for, it is a big responsibility which he handled extremely well, and even got to relax a little bit along the way.
Here is what our travel week looked like::
Time on a bus::
Chepen, Peru to Trujillo, Peru: 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. = 2.5 hours
Trujillo, Peru to Lima, Peru: 11:15 p.m. – 9:15 a.m. = 10 hours
Lima, Peru to Arequipa, Peru: 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 a.m. = 18 hours
Arequipa, Peru to Puno, Peru: 3:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. = 7.5 hours
Hang out in Puno at Lake Titicaca for the day
Puno, Peru to La Paz, Bolivia: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. = 9 hours
La Paz, Bolivia to Cochabamba, Bolivia: 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. = 9.5 hours
Lake Titicaca is huge, beautiful, and amazing! We took a tour of some of the lake and made a stop at some of the floating islands. These islands are made and completely sustained by straw, yes straw! Once we get off the tour boat we step onto this floating island that feels like a waterbed, and sit on a straw bench to listen to how these people created these islands and sustain themselves using just straw. Afterwards we get to explore this little island by playing dress up in their native garb, it was awesome!
Playing dress up on the straw island, notice that everything around us is straw!
(I am in the green jacket and Cory is behind me)
After exploring the islands we got to walk around Puno and get some souvenirs and eat some really great food. That night we had an amazing time of worship as a squad and encouraged each other, lifted each other up, and shared things about our month in Peru. God was moving in huge ways during this time and everyone walked away encouraged and wanting more of Jesus!
Lake Titicaca from the Bolivian side
After almost 57 hours total sitting on a bus, visiting the highest elevation lake in the world (also the birthplace of Incan civilization), and going to two major capitals in South America we arrive in Cochabamba, Bolivia at 5:00 p.m. Thursday September 15th!
The upside to travelling on a bus for that long is getting to see God’s amazing Creation (and what felt like half of South America!)
Our ministry this month is at the Bolivian Children’s Mission Home in Cochabamba. We are living the in the orphanage with 30 little children between the ages of 4 and 16. God has already been working here and it’s only the first week!
