My Brown Eyed Girl
Standing in a busy street, I looked into two beautiful brown eyes. Eyes that longed for love. A young girl, no more than 12, stood in a circle with her friends excitedly asking me about life in America. The first question my Brown Eyed Girl had for me was, "Is America better than Moldova?" How could I answer that…. what would I say… I told her the truth. "I love Moldova and its beautiful countryside." The sweet little one across the way from me was pleased with my answer. As her friends carried on with the translator she reached across the circle and briefly grabbed my hand. In that moment, with that soft touch, God spoke. He said, "You have to tell this Child my story!"
To be honest, I was nervous. The week before we had done street ministry and I failed miserably. But in this moment I could hardly contain myself because I could feel the Lord's power. Excitedly, I jumped in the conversation. Going through two translators, English to Romanian, Romanian to Russian, I asked, "Do you know Jesus' story?" I had it set in my mind she was going to say yes, but God knew best and she said, "No!"
What?? I was blown away. Her face lit up with curiosity. I began to tell her about our Heavenly Father that sent His son. As I finished the story, the questions came. "What is sin? Does everyone sin? Even Americans? Why did Jesus die for me?" The translator continued the conversation. At this point I was not an active participant. I was the spectator. God had something better for me. I watched as a young girl fully understood the love of Christ. Not knowing a word that was said, I could see love engulf her spirit!
After the conversation ended, we embraced. She said her friends and her would join us at kid's camp the next day. And in fact, they did. All three of them were eagerly awaiting our arrival bright early on Saturday morning. The Lord continues to teach me daily about the importance of listening to His voice, to not let doubt creep in, and to believe. My Brown Eyed Girl is out there now with the knowledge that will lead to eternal life. This is now a fact, not because of me excitedly telling a story, but because of the redeeming love of a savior! How sweet is the name of Jesus.
This is LOVE: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4: 10
