When Tag Thompson, director of the FYM department, was down
visiting in Granada
for a few days, he spoke to me about an adventure in the woods. Of course, my
ears perked up at that and I listened intently.

He said spending time in the woods alone was good for the
soul and that I’d find the Lord in a more intense way. He recommended I take
the five guys into the wilderness, find our own area, build a lean-to and just
sit with God for a few days. On principle, he does this at least once a year. I
have other friends that do this as well and they have similar reports. So I
thought to myself, I’m going to do it. I spoke with fellow leader Tana and base
director Charles about this and they were both pro adventure in the woods.

So after two weeks of looking around for a place, Charles
found us 170 acres of wilderness on a volcano. Six guys and 170 acres of
monkey, snake, bug, rodent and coffee filled wilderness. I just got back from
the grocery store where I purchased 9 loaves of bread, six jars of peanut
butter, and six jars of jelly. Each guy gets a jar of each and a loaf and a ½.
The only rule, everything they bring has to fit in their small backpack. I
recommended they leave behind laptops, iPods and the like, but I left that up
to them.

We’ll each find our own area away from the rest and won’t
see each other for the duration of the three day experience. I’ll check in on
them to make sure things are OK, but hopefully they won’t see me.

And that’s our next few days. Thursday thru Saturday we’ll
be out there. I can’t wait to see how God reveals himself to all of us. Stay
tuned…
