I live in a
fantasy world. The last week has
opened my eyes to this because where most people see a task, I see a
story. With that said, I feel one
question that is super important to explain a person’s personality is this: If
you could have any super power, what would it be and why? I don’t ask this to open up the next
few paragraphs; I ask it because I am genuinely expecting an answer. Make it good.

Now on to my main
topic of discussion; the Holy Spirit.
As I was growing up, I looked at the Holy Spirit in very similar ways
that I looked at Superman. My
definition of the Holy Spirit was something that saved me from walking into
oncoming traffic or intuitively changed my direction for something better that was
waiting down the road: much like Superman. Also, whenever I looked for it, odds were I would find it in
the dull form of Clark Kent, battling to blend into the background, as opposed
to the all-powerful Superman.
Unfortunately, I looked at the Holy Spirit with about as much
seriousness and relevance to real life as an alien with super strength and
speed, the ability to fly, and the whole invincibility thing.

So why bring this
up as a topic of conversation?
Last Wednesday night my fantasy world collided with reality and I
experienced something that many of you will never be able to let you guard down
long enough to understand. Whether
you would like to admit it or not, the Holy Spirit is working and powerful all
over the world no matter how small of a box we place it into in America. If you would like to read more about
the story I am referencing, check out this article from the perspective of
Taylor Griffith (it is an uncensored account, but I’m not telling you to be
careful, just thought you should know).

At this point in
the article, I’m sure you expect me to give you three strong defenses for the
Holy Spirit and really begin to drive home my point. I’m not going to do that because honestly, “Because I’ve
experienced it,” is not going to be a good enough argument for many of
you. All I ask is that you explore
your mind and your heart AND scripture to see if you can develop a good
understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit. Is the Holy Spirit working and active today? Or is it just some charismatic carry-over
from the early church written about in Acts and Romans?

Fight the answer
that is in your head right now, and search for the answer that you know is
right in your heart. This isn’t a
snap judgment to be made out of comfort.
It is something to delve into and explore. So stop trying to be the voice of an argument and listen for
the voice that calls us all together.
