So…Today is my
birthday.
I’ve been away
from my friends and family before for my birthday, but this year was
different. Last night my amazing
team took me out for a surprise dinner.
We went and had Italian food at a Mexican restaurant…Great combination. Over dinner they put me in the “hot
seat” and just encouraged me for about 30 minutes. Each compliment and word was so specific and individual from
each person. It’s weird to think
we’ve known each other for such a short time. I cannot thank them enough for last night.
Today, we went
out to this beautiful resort for a “day-o-fun” before we all launch out as a
team. Perfect timing right? Way to go mom. We spent all day jumping off the
balcony and swimming in the water and even passing out in the randomly placed
hammocks. It really was a great
way to celebrate my birthday and tonight we are even having a celebration
dinner and concert (not for me, but I can convince myself differently…) I also share my birthday with the
lovely Gretchen Kiehlbaugh, our squad leader. I’m sure she would love the Happy Birthday wishes as well.
Anyway, I said
this year’s birthday was different because even though I’m away from family, it
feels otherwise. This team has
bonded so quickly and feels like a family already. I know my family back home has prayed for that and while
they can NEVER be replaced, this is an amazing environment to call home.
Meanwhile back
home, I cannot thank so many of you for the birthday e-mails and wishes that
are coming. It’s good to know that
I am supported here, but it’s so sweet to hear the support from home. I’ll give you guys some more support on
where we are headed tomorrow, but what I will tell you now is that I am headed
to the Caribbean coast for the next month! More to come later…
