A few years ago, I attended the School of Discipleship at my church, and I will never forget what my teacher stated one night. He said,

“There is a space in between hearing God’s voice and being obedient. There’s a thin line, a one second gap in which you decide whether to say yes or no. A moment when you decide if today you will listen to His voice. That space determines everything.”

I think about the moments in my life when I’ve heard His voice and talked myself out of obedience. The times where I overanalyzed because I was scared, tired, busy, etc. What did I rob from the Kingdom of Heaven because of my disobedience? What was the cost?

The space in between is where you will make the most important decision every day. Do I obey His voice today or do I choose to harden my heart?

The moment passes rapidly and satan will quickly steal your confidence. The enemy will ask you the same question he asked Eve, “Did God really say?”

Sometimes, God gives me time to really listen and know if I hear His voice.  Other times, He confirms an answer in a BIG way. Honestly, I treasure the times I’m sensitive to His still small voice rather than when He answers in a boom. I don’t want to always rely on a “writing on the wall” because I’m being stubborn. I desire to know His voice so well that He only has to ask me once, and I hear Him clearly and I obey.

So, how do we make the most of that space in between?

We wake up and say, “Today, Holy Spirit, my answer is yes.” You say yes before the call even comes. If you say yes and then realize it’s not His voice then you’re one step closer to knowing His voice. If you do something He didn’t ask, then no harm done. If there is harm done, then go back and clean up the mess.

If you want to see God’s Kingdom on Earth, you have to partner with Holy Spirit. Partnering means taking risks, and saying yes in that space in between.
