I got some good feedback about starting some kind of prayer chain so I'm going to move forward with it. When it comes right down to it this will only work if you take time to make it work. If you don't pray then it doesn't happen. It's that simple.
Ideally every squad member would make this a priority and take time to encourage their teams to pray for the rest of the squad. However I recognize that sometimes we need a little encouragement and enthusiasm to get us started. Occassionally it helps to have someone take up their sword and lead the charge.
I am asking for a few prayer warriors/encouragers from each team who might be willing to head this up. I'm not looking for a big sign your life away kind of thing. All I want is a few individuals willing to commit to praying on their own and to reminding their teams to pray for the rest of the squad during prayer times, when they feel lead etc. Basically just to keep an awareness that their team is not isolated but part of a larger community and be open to hearing not only what God has for their team but the community as a whole. I want the names because I hope to be able to encourage you as you encourage your teams but you don't actually have to tell me about it just do it.
I also firmly believe that the names we gave our teams are not random. They have meaning and I believe that they are prophetic declarations about our year. That said I would love it if someone from each team would write a short explanation about the meaning behind their team name. I want to be able to put all of that information in one place so that it's convenient and easy to access on the field. We want to declare that God would do what the name of your team suggests in your lives and in the lives of those you encounter on the race.
The sooner I have this information the better because this will be easier to do before we arrive in Thailand (Plus it would be cool to get started ASAP).
This isn't really a big deal. It's actually really a simple suggestion: pray for the other teams. The chain part is just to make sure that all of the teams are prayed for.
We're keeping it simple. Find your team name on the list, then look for the next team on the list and pray for them. Next time around it's the team beneath the one you prayed for and so on. When you get back to your team name skip it and start at the top again, (I'm assuming that you'll pray for your team the whole time.)
Ex: Wrecking Ball prays for Absolute Abandon first.
I'm going to leave it up to each team to decide how to use the rotation. I would suggest weekly just because I like change to keep me motivated to pray but that's up to you. Whether you pray for a new team every month, week or day is up to you and your team.
If you have questions or information about your team name either leave a comment or email me at: [email protected]
