You hear horror stories of poor kids just abused and forgotten. Stories that don’t have happy endings. Stories where the ending is worse than the beginning. In these stories we are so quick to wonder where God is. So easily dismayed and fearful that God has forgotten these kids. I always catch myself wondering when God will give these kids a break. I mean God they are only KIDS!

…but God, you know better than I.

This month we are working with an orphanage of 15 kids. Great kids, Happy kids. It is insane to me how happy these kids are. They were moved to this orphanage because they were sexually abused at their government orphanages. These kids, already abandoned and forgotten by their parents, were sexual abused by the people who were supposed to be caring for them. How disgusting and sad does this life sound for these beautiful children? I was heartbroken for them.

Their story seemed to have a happy ending, did it not? These kids were moved to a huge house in the pines. There’s a huge yard with fruit trees and grass. Swings dangle from the trees. The 2 huge German shepherds keep a loving eye. You can even hear the sounds of the creek behind the house they get to swim in. I couldn’t help but think “These kids are finally catching a break.” They did, for a little while.

Then, today happened. Our host got a call from the director of the orphanage saying that funds are being cut and the orphanage we love will be no more. Ummmmm, God? You there? Did you hear that? These kids are going to have to go back to the government houses. God, WHY? Why?

WHY?!?!?!

I just want to yell and scream. These poor kids. God, Wendy loves to be able to run. Wilmer likes to play soccer and Sixto loves to climb the trees and pick the fruit. All that will be gone in the month they have to distribute the kids to other orphanages.

In this time I want to know how Joseph felt when his brothers sold him into slavery. What went through his head?! Right now I am wondering where God is, did he? After he was thrown in jail did he wonder if God cared at all? When God took away everything Job had, what went through Job’s head? Did they wonder why like me?

…But God you know better than I.

I am sure, just like the disciples, the blind man wondered why. Why was I born with no sight? What I would do to know what red looks like. I bet he sat and wondered why is whole freaking life, but don’t we all? Don’t we all want to know the answers of God? We all beg for that, but how awesome was it when God revealed this man was born blind for a very specific purpose? That purpose was to reveal Jesus’s glory and power. How amazing is it that we all are put through circumstances so God can reveal His glory.

Somehow, some way, through this tragedy God will reveal His Glory through these kids lives. Plus, He will do it with or without our help. He may not tell us why, but he does tell us He loves those kids. He died on the cross for those kids. How can we not trust a God who would send His own son to die for our sake? To die so that these kids can have hope.

That being said…Lord, you are more than my need to know why. I will take what answers you provide, for you know better than I.

Please be praying for these kids. If you know of anyway to help this orphanage please contact me and I will put you in contact with my hosts. We are praying this place can and will be saved. We know it can because we serve a big God.
