Do you ever feel bombarded with attacks, stirring up deep feelings of anger, sadness, doubt, resentment, and fear? Do you ever feel like you are at sea, and the waves are targeting you getting ready to take you under? Do you ever just feel like you have no control?

..because I do.

As a matter-of-fact, that’s how I feel right now.

But wait. I’m a Christian- I’m supposed to have it all together right? HUH, NO.

In the Bible there is no promise that living a life devoted to God will free you from trails, pain, and suffering. How annoying would that be if you had to see people walking around who never knew the pain and suffering that “everyday life” can bring? What God does promise is far more valuable. He promises peace. Not only peace but, perfect peace!

Let’s take a look at Matthew 8:23-27

23 Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him. 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us, we’re going to drown!” 26 He replied, “You of little faith! Why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!

How similar are we to the disciples? Through times of tribulation we find ourselves asking: God where are you? God why aren’t you helping me? Of course we don’t want to drown, so human nature is to panic. When asking God to help us, how many times is it out of fear and apprehension, instead of confidence that Christ can speak peace to the storm? It’s something I struggle with. I’m learning to give my storm to the only One who can calm it. I’m learning to stop standing in the way, and just let God work. That means refraining from worry, doubt, complaints, and trying to solve things by natural ability. Our God is mighty and too often we limit Him by not trusting His promise of peace and protection.

This week, I pray for you as well as myself, to be calm in the midst of the raging sea. Remaining fully confident that all the Earth obeys our Father and we have nothing to fear. I pray for peace.

Yours in Christ,
