MY PLANS
So I had plans. I was planning on going to Germany to visit my best friend that recently moved there, and visit countries I didn’t tour the first time I went to Europe. I was saving money to buy a new car; I was planning on starting my second year of teaching, and maybe take some classes and learn something new. An 11-month missions trip in South America (and blogging?!) were not in my plans, but when God has plans of His own, you can’t say no.
For those of you who know me well, South America isn’t exactly the first place I’d be running to go visit. I mean… cockroaches… and bugs that cause diseases… I’m not a fan. Actually, I’m terrified of roaches (you know, the ones that fly! Eeeek!) Pathetic, I know. The thing is, God has placed this burden and conviction in my heart, and that trumps all my fears, faithlessness, and insecurities. This is an undertaking that will exercise my faith like never before.
GOD’S PLAN
It looks something like this…The day will be within the month of August 2016. Backpacking. 11 months. Every single country in South America. The World Race Expedition. Mission: spreading the Gospel of Jesus and showing His love throughout the entire continent of South America.
The World Race is a journey that will take me to people who don’t know who I am, don’t care where I come from, can give me nothing in return, but desperately need to hear about the love of Jesus. I will be traveling with a team of 6-8 people. We will take our backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags and travel to each country together, partnering with local churches and ministries to serve wherever we are needed.
Ministry on the Race might vary from ministering to unreached tribes, to student ministry, inner city kids, rehabilitation centers, church planting, construction for a Bible translation organization, orphans, youth ministry, building houses, feeding the needy, and much more, all while sharing the Gospel of Jesus.
I am so excited (and terrified) at this awesome opportunity! I will be spending the next few months raising support and preparing myself for the race. To participate in the World Race I need to raise $17,561 for the entire year. This will include my training, insurance, travel expenses, meals and accommodation for the entirety of the trip.
