I’M GOING ON THE WORLD RACE (GAP YEAR)
Now, you are either not surprised at all or you are in total shock, but either way you’re probably asking,
“What is the World Race?!”
You may remember that I went on a mission trip over the summer (2015) to Nicaragua with Adventures In Missions. Well, this is the same organization that does the WR! On the World Race, you do mission work in 11 countries for 11 months, and it’s for ages 21-25. The World Race (Gap Year) is mission work in 3 countries for 9 months, and it’s for ages 18-22. (This is the one I’m doing)
Where will you be going, and when do you leave?
I will be serving in Thailand, Guatemala, and Malawi, and I leave for the Race in October 2016.
But school, what about school?
Yes, I will be taking a year off between high school and college, but trust me, it will be worth it. Yes, I plan on going to college when I come back, but I have no clue what school I will be going to.
What will you be doing there?
I don’t have any specifics yet, but based on previous mission trips and other World Racers’ routes, I have a general idea we might do something along the lines of teaching, health clinics, construction projects, feeding programs, VBS, sports ministry, door to door evangelism, leading worship, bible studies, and anything that the Lord asks of us.
Who is “us” ?
My squad! You can click the “meet my squad” button and see all their beautiful faces and read their blog posts! I’ve been accepted on the WR for quite some time now, so I’ve already gotten to know most of my squad and I love them so much already. We have prayer requests for each other daily, and we’re constantly lifting everyone up. I think God did a pretty good job in picking us out for each other!
How much does it cost and how will you pay for it?
My Race is about 13,805, plus gear and what not, and I will be fundraising it all! Don’t think about the money right now! I have fundraising ideas for the near future, but right now just be excited with me, and pray for me and my team!
What made you decide to do this?
Well, I have a really long answer for this one that I would love to write a full blog post about it some time, so I’ll give you the short answer for now. The Lord asked me to do it, so I said yes. Simple as that.
What is a blog? Am I on the blog now?
Yes Grandma, you’re on the blog now. This is where I will be writing about my thoughts, feelings, and really anything leading up to and during the World Race. I will also be fundraising through this, and keeping you updated with all the work God is doing through my life and the lives of people around me. You can subscribe to my blog so that you get an update whenever I post! You can also contact me through my blog if you have any questions, or if you know me you can obviously contact me through my phone or in person.
I’m so incredibly excited about this adventure, and I hope you are just as excited! I know it’s still awhile before I leave, but please go ahead and start praying. Prayer is one of the most important things I need, especially right now. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and I hope you have a fabulous day!
