The Holocaust.     Nazis.     Hitler.     The Cold War.     Atheism.
A country with a dark past affecting its present.

Martin Luther.     Count Zinzendorf.     Bonhoeffer.     The Protestant Reformation.
A country with a rich history calling past the darkness to the future.

Germany.

It is here surrounded by a company of believers contending for a new reformation, unwilling to settle for anything less, that I have the privilege of doing ministry this month. I get to spend hours drumming and praying as we partner with Burn 24-7, a ministry devoted to establishing continuous night and day worship and intercession in the city of Berlin.

For forty years the Berlin Wall, a fortress of division and oppression, stood in this city. The majority of it was torn down twenty years ago this month. The part that does remain as a monument to what was can be described as quite unimpressive.

The Berlin Wall no longer poses a threat, however there are spiritual walls that still stand. These walls, like the physical one that stood for so many years, are destined to crumble.

Berlin is a cultural hub, a thriving metropolis, a gateway to the rest of Europe and it has been in darkness far too long. God wants to bring forth treasures out of the darkness, redemption for the lost years and this will become reality as children of God humble themselves and cry out for the people of this city.

There is going to be a generation of worshipers that will arise from Berlin and as they touch the heart of God this city will be transformed into a city reaching the nations with the Gospel.

This is Berlin’s redemptive calling and I am excited to spend this short season contending for it to be a reality.
