The discussion ended with an, “OK God, obviously You want to show me a root that needs to be dealt with, so make it clear to me. Although if it is anything like these roots, it is pointless because no matter what I do they will not come out of the ground!”

Exhausted and a bit more frustrated I laid down for a nap. As I slept God was faithful to answer. The vivid dream fresh in my memory wasn’t encouraging but I knew it was the clarity I needed. Still… it was old, it was deep and I glumly admitted I wouldn’t have the strength to remove it.
Wednesday night as we worshipped there was a magnificent thunderstorm and we enjoyed the downpour that accompanied it. Thursday my weed pulling chore was staring me in the face again.
With a heavy sigh, I bent down to grab a large weed and to pull with all my might. The previous night’s rain had soaked and softened the earth and to my surprise and pleasure with little effort I held up a huge weed – roots and all.
After years of digging and yanking with little results the roots God revealed and watered with His Spirit are now gone for good, tossed aside in the burn pile and forever destroyed.
Our jungle-like backyard has been transformed into a beautiful garden area. In the same way my heart has been transformed and eagerly awaits the blossoms of spring.
My prayer for you is that whatever roots God reveals to you will be watered with His Spirit so that regardless of how deep they may run you too can find freedom and enjoy the coming spring.
“My beloved spoke and said to me: ‘Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.'”
