A small solitary light lends its faint glow to the pale moonlight
streaking through a few open windows, otherwise all is dark.
Judging by the silhouettes there are about thirty people who have
silently slipped into the building. Some sit leaning forward, others
pace, and still others kneel. They are watchman for this city,
sacrificing sleep to petition God for its people, to lift His name
high in this country.
The quiet stillness of four in the morning is broken by their praises
rising as a sweet smelling fragrance before God. Beautiful
Haitian-Creole voices joining together sing “Trust and Obey” and
several other songs I cannot understand, yet I know this small group
must have the attention of Heaven. As they dance and sing, I know God
is rejoicing over them.
Like stars dotting the night sky, they shine in this dark land. And
just as night passes away into the beautiful colors of sunrise,
Haiti’s dawn is coming, bathing this nation in light and driving out
the darkness.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning –
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning” Psalm 130:5-6

I wait and hope expectantly, as well, for this land I have come to
love.
