This month I have been reading through a 40 day prayer challenge book called Draw the Circle (it’s awesome, everyone should read it!). One day the author mentioned that praying is like planting seeds. Our prayers are in the ground and may take some time to sprout and grow but they are there waiting and getting ready to produce fruit.

One day I asked God, ‘what is here in Rwanda?’. The answer was, ‘revival’. I asked where was the revival, I wanted to see it. He replied, ‘it’s within’. Later that week the team decided to spend a day praying for Rwanda. The house where we were was on top of a big hill that overlooked the entire city of Kigali, which gave us an amazing view of the land we were praying over.

As we prayed I saw a picture that our prayers were implanting into the ground over the city and that the ‘revival’ that is ‘within’ was the product of a lot of prayers that were prayed for Rwanda before us. Our prayers for Rwanda were adding up with the prayers for revival that were already within.  I shared the picture with the team after our prayer time and explained how the book I was reading compared praying to planting seeds.

The next morning we woke up and it was raining. When the team got together two people shared that they had a dream that it was raining and that our prayers were being nourished by the rain so that they may sprout soon. It was such an encouragement to hear from God in that way and to know that he was watering all the prayers we planted the day before and that they were having effect and were in motion!

God continues to teach me the importance of prayer. Anything done on earth for the glory of the Kingdom of God is a direct result of a lot of prayer. What do we want to see changed in our country, our own cities, our own homes? Are we praying fervently for it? Often we like to talk about all the problems in our lives, our country, our leaders but we aren’t praying for the change we want to see in those things. If we prayed about our issues as much as we talked about them a lot of things would be different in our lives.

I believe it’s time to put our ‘money where our mouth is’, get on our knees and pray. Prayer is like planting. We reap what we sow.
