Over the course of my Race I’ve been asked questions about a variety of topics ranging from how many insects I have eaten to what God is teaching me in the moment, so I decided to post some of these questions in a blog with my answers. Here you go!
Who on your new team is your favorite person?
– One of my teammates asked this one. Can you tell?
How much more awesome are the coaches than you originally thought they would be?
– Can you tell who asked this one too? But in all seriousness, they are wonderful! Dan and Karen give us so much wisdom and insight. I know they lift us all up in prayer and support us along the way. It’s always a joy to hear from them and to spend time with them at debrief. My Race would not be the same without them involved.
What has been your most defeating moment?
– The moment I realized I’m not as awesome as I thought I am. Seriously. I had a few weeks last month of feeling defeated and like I was not good at anything I originally had thought I was gifted in. God has revealed to me that in order to truly be fully surrendered to him I must acknowledge my pride and sin. This will allow me to then fully acknowledge my total need to be dependent upon him. He uses our defeating moments for his glory.
What has been your most victorious moment?
– I have had so many moments where God has blown my mind with how he has worked in and through me. My favorite was probably getting to be a part of the lives of children who had been at risk for sex trafficking in Southeast Asia. Whether it was building a new house, teaching piano lessons, making Christmas presents, or playing Uno, I got to be involved in transformation for these kids first hand. Their sweet smiles and loving embraces are something I will never forget, and knowing they will never face the horrors they were destined for will forever bring me joy.
What have you learned about living a lifestyle of sharing the Gospel?
– The term missionary does not refer to a specific field or career; rather this term is synonymous with the term Christian. All Christians are called to live a life on mission. We all must see our work places and our social arenas as ministry places. We must intentionally build relationships in order to spread the Gospel. This is the only life we are called to as Christians.
What have you learned from being on the Race?
– One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is how the Church operates most effectively. So often in the United States, we are told that we need to send help to other nations and that American Christians know how to do church the best. But in reality this is simply not true. Though many churches do have less money or amenities than those in the States, many have a better understanding of living out as a community and how to live by faith. I have learned that building relationships is far more important than attending church and that churches should be outward focused rather than inward focused. Attendance numbers are not what truly matters, but rather what matters is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! I’ll post my answers in a future blog.
