Every week for the next 11 weeks, I'll be highlighting a specific country that my squad will be ministering in. I'll give you facts about the country, as well as what to pray for as we go. First up on the list……China.
Facts:
-Population: 1.3 billion – largest in the world!
-Capital: Beijing
-Largest City: Shanghai – largest population in the world with over 22 million living there
-Language: Chinese and numerous dialects
-514 identified people groups
-81.5% unreached
-Religion: government approved only; examples include Buddhism and Taoism
-Evangelical Church: one of the fastest growing in the world despite persecution and having to
exist underground; perhaps even more believers than the United States!
Ministry:
-Ministry in China is largely done through building relationships. A church cannot simply advertise as one
does in the United States.
-Our work will be largely kept quiet in order to protect our contacts living in China.
-We may work as English partners with students helping them learn the language and sharing the Gospel
in the process.
-We also may find ourselves working with and loving on orphans. China has a one child policy requiring
most couples to only have one child. This has resulted in a surplus of orphans and abortions particularly
for female children.
Pray:
-Pray that while we are in China many will be open to learning more about the Gospel and that we will see
many come to know Christ.
-Pray for my squad that we will be mentally and spiritually prepared to face ministering in a closed country
and that the Lord will provide the financial means for us to go.
-Pray that the Chinese government will loosen restrictions on religious freedom, particularly Christianity.
