The Journey Begins.
Bag packed! Camera-check! Batteries-check! Tripod and mic- check! Plan of action…umm- check!!
Time allotted- 6 weeks!
First stone:
To
create a short film covering the work or ministry of Jake and his family. My
Goal: To give them a tool they could use to share with people back in the
states as they spoke and shared on the conflict in Burma and their ministry in
Thai-land. My Hope: For them to
watch the film and be able to tell me: “that’s us.” I wanted to create a “peace” that was real, accurate, and
not cheesy but done with excellence.
When I joined back up Jake and his family we began a
2week-long journey. We went ALL
OVER Northern Thailand and into Burma once!
Jake and his family’s dream is to partner with the dreams of
the local people. Much of what
they do is come behind the local people and help to raise them up to lead their
own people and nation! And they’re doing it!- Most of which revoloves around
the conflict in Burma!
Due to the sensitivity of his work I’m not able to share
certain specifics or details on what he really does or where! But lets just say I was beginning to be
introduced to a world that few have seen!
He took me into a place that he has brought few people; A
refugee camp consisting of nearly 60,000 people! It was there I began to hear the stories from the
children. I began to her things
that I’d never heard before! Kids being separated from their parents either
from murder or choice based on survival… walking for days, weeks, even longer
to reach the refugee camps in Thailand!
Rumors of rape, murder, and even worse were common stories found among
the children. But none of the
children at that point could bring themselves to tell me such things!
It seemed I was only scratching the surface! 2 weeks later this proved to be true!
I filmed everything I could, hours and hours of film. I covered every aspect of Jakes work
and the many different places we went!
It came together better then I thought- and I had more then enough
footage to put together a decent film.
I then locked myself in a room for 4 days and edited my butt
off! I was able to give them two
short films. A 15 minute peace,
and a 8 minute peace. I saw the
emotions as they watched what I had put together, and it made all the work
worth it. They told me exactly what I hoped to hear, “that’s us! Thank you”
Unfortunately I’m not able to share it with you- it’s not safe for them or
their work to put it online!
Second Stone!
A divine encounter with a special man who took me further
and deeper then I ever intended to go!
I’ve never experienced anything in my life like what I experienced
during this time! Some of the rawest things I’ve ever heard or seen. This is the part of my experience that
shook me to the core!- I’ll never be able to forget it! I went so deep so quick
I cancelled my flight back to Bangkok and stayed an extra week! This person is
so undercover that I must use utmost care in anything I share for it could mean
life or death!

As a kid- I don’t know if I ever thought I would be doing
the things I’m doing, seeing the things I’m seeing, and know the things I
know!- Sometimes I think “how did this happen?”
