To finish where I left off. 2 days after returning from England I turned right around to fly out to Colorado USA for 4 days. I had the privilege to attend a wedding for two close friends of mine, Jenny Willis (Telfer) and Chris Telfer.
I can’t even explain what this time meant to me. I’ve known Jenny since I was about 7 years old. She is the whole reason why I found The Worldrace. God has used her in so many ways in my life. I thank God for her all the time and what she has meant to me throughout the years. She was the “door” God used to change the course of my life! Chris Telfer is also a friend of mine. I met him in Africa during the first month of my race. He’s an amazing man of God who I’m privileged to know. Chris and I from the time we met have developed an incredible bond. What a joy it was for me to see such wonderful people, who are my friends, join in marriage. Chris is the right man for Jenny!!! I’m so glad it was him!
I knew about the wedding for months but wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to attend. Additionally I was supposed to be in the wedding so that weighed on my heart. It’s not a cheep flight back to the states from Spain. I had been in prayer about it for months hoping for a miracle. I began to be troubled as the days began to role by with no foreseeable way to get there. This was the one wedding I didn’t want to miss! And the one wedding I would do anything to be at!
With a week and a half to go until the big day I looked for tickets and found one for cheep considering what they can cost. I prayed and asked God for an answer and his blessing. “Should I stay or should I go? I need to make a decision? What do I do- am I supposed to go?” All the while I don’t have any money to buy a ticket. (I don’t like sharing details about finances in my life, but I will this time.) Truthfully I was weeping before God. This was a one chance to be a part of my best friends wedding and I didn’t want finances to be an issue. So I went a head and bit my lip and bought the ticket. It was my love offering to Jenny and Chris, and my gift.
I was able to swing it with some friends in Colorado where I was actually able to surprise Jenny. It was so perfect!! She had no idea and I totally got her. She has always “gotten” me throughout the years. Chris and a few other friends were in on it.
From the point I arrived in Colorado I was emotional. I wasn’t expecting it. But I had the chance to see so many people that mean so much to me all at once.
Jenny honored me at her wedding by asking me to stand on her side. So I guess you can say I was a “bridesman.” It was my honor to stand with her!! Tell you the truth I had the best deal out of all the guys =).
I was over whelmed with thankfulness to God to have such amazing and beautiful people as friends. I have never cried so hard at a wedding! To see Jenny and Chris join together in marriage was absolutely beautiful! I was wrecked!
What can I say! I wouldn’t have missed it! I’m so thankful I was there…I would do it all over again!!!
Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Telfer! I Love you both!
