Wrapping up Guatemala
So we’ve left Guatemala, and now we’re in Nicaragua. It was definitely tough leaving Guatemala and all thirty-two kids behind, but I guess we’ll go through that every month. Our main ministry in Guatemala was watching over the kids. To some of you that may sound easy, however that wasn’t always the case. It wasn’t always easy, but it was absolutely rewarding. There are times between the responsibility and work that you get insight and understanding if you take the time to listen. In Guatemala, I learned just how important the little things are. It’s as simple as loving people, paying attention to them, and living what you believe in front of them. With that said, I’ll give you a run down of my typical Guatemalan Day. Cody and I would wake up between 5::30 and 6:00 to 12 screaming Spanish boys. They would start off their morning by doing chores, which consisted of mopping the floor with Clorox and water(mostly water) and their mop was a rag. We would then sit down to a bowl of Chocho Popps and warm soy milk. After breakfast, we were suppose to do chores until 1:00 P.M. However, Cody and I didn’t always enforce that rule to its fullest. The chores consisted of chopping wood, changing the brakes on a van, cleaning, cement work, etc… We would then eat lunch at 1:00 and for lunch we often had beans and rice. After lunch we did some cleaning, but other than that we made sure the kids didn’t get too wild. We tried our best to get the boys to take showers before dinner or even to get them to take showers at all. One of the funniest moments was when Tamar (the clown of the bunch) took a shower with his underwear on. He’s probably always taken a shower with his underwear on, but I wasn’t going to go in the shower to find out. I just happen to be passing by the shower when he opened the curtain to tell me something and there he was soaking wet in the shower sporting his Scooby Doo’s. I tried to explain to him the proper way to take a shower, but he insisted his way was better. I still don’t know what he would do with his Scooby Doo’s after showering, and I don’t think I want to know. Come to think of it…I spent quite a bit of time trying to teach orphan boys how to be clean.
Sorry it’s been a while since my last blog. Our current ministry has no wireless internet, so we have limited opportunity’s to post blogs. I do have two more blogs to finish after this one, as well as a video, so hopefully I’ll be able to post them soon. Also, I just want to thank all my supporters. Thank you all for your prayers and financial support. I’m nearly fully supported, only about 2k left to raise. God has provided almost 12k in funds!
I’ve learned recently not only to ask God to show me the way, but to wait for Him to show me the way. Part of trusting in God is waiting on Him. I’ve learned that God is much bigger than we all realize and we can’t put limits on Him. Always remember to enjoy today, be thankful, seek God, and love
Guess who I named Mr. Cheeks
