Yesterday I got the opportunity to ride with Javier, our ministry contact, to the dump in Sumpango, Guatemala.  We drove there from the orphanage we are presently staying at near Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Our van was loaded down with garbage ranging from old food to used toilet paper. Many of the bags were busted, so we laid down a plastic bag in the back of the van and on the seat. When we arrived at the dump, there were kids playing and eating. There were also men and women scavenging and unloading garbage for tips. Javier backed up the van and before we could start to unload our garbage there were a few people taking it out for us. Javier then started talking to Maria, a single mom with three kids. He told her we would be back the next day to give her some clean clothes for the kids. On the ride back to the village, Javier asked me if our team would want to go to the dump to hand out clothes and witness to people. The answer was obvious, and I was sure no one on our team wanted to miss the opportunity to share the love of Christ with people who wanted it so badly. So this morning we loaded an eight passenger van with ten people, four large suitcases, trash bags filled with clothes and a couple bags of toys. Feeling unprepared and not knowing what lay ahead of us, we drove off in faith.
