“Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him; the Lord protects him and keeps him alive; he is called blessed in the land; you do not give him up to the will of his enemies. The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.” Psalms 41:1-3 ESV

I have seen people here living in small houses with 10+ people I have seen people living in the garbage dump. The people aren’t mad or unhappy, they all thank God that they are alive and everyone always has a smile. When talking to the people and asking what they would like us to pray for, they all would say for there family or for good health so they can provide for there family.

One short story – Earlier this week I got the opportunity to pray over this guy named Bibetto.  When I asked him what he wanted prayer for he said he wanted good health for his family and that he would be able to provide from them.  A couple of days later we were in this village where I ran into him again.  This time when I ran into him I was able to call him by name and talk to him more about his life. I found out that he had a wife and 8 kids that lived in a 10 foot by 10 foot house.  This house had half of a roof and no drinkable water.  Bibetto was doing everything in his power to provide for his family.  He was one of the villages dumpster divers, and this is the only way he could provide for his family.  This man was so happy that an American would care about him and even remember his name.

Being from America and visiting these places we have visited, has really opened my eyes how blessed we truly are just living in America. Some people say that being an American is the best thing, but when looking at it from a new perspective I feel that all of the blessings we have in America are a big distraction to see what God is really wanting for our lives. My prayer and challenge for you is that you would take a day and look at all the blessings you have, write them down and share them with someone you know!
