So far on the race, each month we have been involved in a ministry where we are constantly going to planned events or to different communities, but this month has been very different. Our contact is constantly doing outreach, but because of lack of a vehicle, we have the freedom to do any local ministry we feel called to do. This honestly has proven more difficult than I would have thought, but I feel like it is a shining example of what life will be like at home. We won’t have a schedule, we won’t have someone driving us around to do works. It will be us listening for God’s call and then having the initiative to follow through. Some days we work with the kids, we went to a house fellowship and we give the weekly message at church, but this month we have been called to be intentional with our ministry.

Yesterday we went out for a prayer walk, praying over the city and the people to be broken from the false gods and idols to which they pray. As we walked, Carrie wanted to stop by to talk to a guy at a store and invite him to church, and while they were talking, he whipped out a guitar and wanted us to play for him. So we did; in the middle of this little store we sang and played for him. Six months ago none of us knew how to play guitar, but through circumstances we were given the opportunity to learn a few songs and now when someone pulls out a guitar, we can worship with them! How perfectly aligned God’s plan is; He is constantly giving us the skills and tools to spread His word and His glory and it catches me off guard every single time!

I feel like God is teaching me something new every month on the race, and this month it is definitely to be intentional, especially with people. Not to wait until some opportunity is placed in my lap, or until someone else opens the door and asks me about Jesus, but to take the first step and turn the knob. You don’t know what’s on the other side, what their reaction may be, or what’s going to happen, but if you just keep waiting for someone else to open the door, you may be waiting for a rather long time.
