These were the words I heard almost daily from one of the children at the orphanage last month. I don’t know why she connected to me above the rest of the team, but she did. We all has those one or two children that connected with us at another level. For me it was Rose*. The phrase above is what she would tell all of my teammates to tell me if she saw them after I had gone upstairs for the night or even just going upstairs to get something.
I laughed at it in the beginning, but as the month wore on, I began to see the beauty and the weight in these few words.
While I don’t know Rose’s full story, I know the home situation she is in now. She lives in an orphanage home with 12 other girls and one full time house mom and one set of house parents that are there a few hours each day. Personal one-on-one time is not a part of every day life. So when a team of 7 women show up and have the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with the girls, the girls soak in the attention like a dry sponge in water.
I realized how important it was to spend just a few minutes a day giving each girl a small amount of my undivided attention. The more attention I gave Rose, the more my love for her grew and the more her love for me grew.
It’s the same way with God. The more time we spend with Him giving Him our undivided attention, the more we fall in love with Him. And everytime we step away from our relationship with Him, He sends people to tell that He loves us and He misses us and He is waiting for us.
My question to you is two fold. Are there people in your life who are craving your undivided attention? If so, I encourage you to take that time and strengthen that relationship. It may not be just for your benefit; it may be for theirs.
The second part is, have you stepped away from God? Is he placing people in your life to call you back to Him? I encourage you to examine your relationship with God and if you have stepped away, turn around! He’s there waiting for you. He’s chasing you with all He is.
