As many of you know, August is our “Ask the Lord” month for Africa.  Our team has spent a significant amount of time praying about where we feel God is leading us.  The answer was the much unknown to us country of Zambia.  So after much prayer and not without a few small miracles, we have made it to Zambia.  I wanted to post a quick update from Zambia since my guess is that after tonight I won’t internet for nearly a month.

Currently, I am here in Livingstone, Zambia. We are located just a few short kilometers from Victoria Falls which is like the biggest waterfall in the world AND one of the seven natural wonders of the world.  As we had chosen Saturday to celebrate Amanda’s birthday, my team and I spent the day yesterday at the falls.  It was just an amazing testimony to God’s glory and his beautiful creation.

Some of us even crossed the bridge that connects Zambia and Zimbabwe and stepped foot in Zimbabwe for good measure.  We finished our day by having a wonderful Italian meal at this nice inexpensive little place called “Olga’s”.  We then returned to our youth hostel and had cake to continue the celebration of Amanda turning 25.  It was the perfect day.  Amanda even shared some of her 20 pink roses that I’d bought her for her birthday (only $4.. can u believe that?!?) with each of the girls on our team.  It was really sweet.

Tomorrow morning, we leave our hostel at 5am to catch our 6am bus back to Lusaka.  We will be met buy Bishop Mambo who will then take us to his farm for our first night.  He has asked our preference of whether we would like for him to prepare us a pig or sheep for dinner.  I think the team consensus was pig.  Should be delicious.  He even called tonight to discuss an issue… he wanted to make sure the animal was prepared in a way that we would like.  We feel so blessed already to have them as our ministry contact as he has called daily just since we arrived in Zambia just to check in on us and make sure everything is going smoothly.  I must say that even with our few hiccups getting into Zambia (insufficient funds in our account for visas and the lost reservation at our hostel in lusaka on our first night) everything has been going great.  We have met several Christians so far and the Zambian people are just so kind and helpful.  I love it here already.

After the Bishop picks us up tomorrow and we feast at his farm tomorrow evening, he will take us to the orphanage on Tuesday where we will be doing our ministry.  We will be working with something like 800 orphans as well as helping to prepare for the opening of a new orphanage.  I must admit, I am overwhelmed by the number of children.  But God is good and He knows what He’s doing.  Some teammates are super excited and others like myself are not so sure how we feel about THAT MANY kids.  But, I am confident it will be an incredible month.. because a lot of prayer has gone into this.. and we KNOW this is where God has called us and we are exactly where he wants us.  Like our Ask the Lord month of May in Asia, I think this “Ask the Lord” month is going to bless us abundantly in ways we can’t even fathom right now.
