My team and I spent the month of May in the closed country of Laos. We were living in the capital city of Vientiane for the month of May. While I cannot write much about our ministry or experience or even post photos of the wonderful people we met, I can share with you some of the beauty of the countryside and experiences we enjoyed.
80% of the Laos people live in the villages.
Below are a couple pictures from some of the mountain villages located near Luang Prabang.
Towards the end of our month, part of our team took a brief excursion to Luang Prabang where we felt the Lord was leading us. Below are some of the breathtaking views we were able to take in.
There are several waterfalls near Luang Prabang (former captial of Laos). We were able to venture to the largest one. These photos are from the end of the dry season. Normally the waterfalls are much larger. Bekah, Teri, and myself enjoyed a little adventure while there as we each tried out swinging from the rope into the water as well as jumping off one of the smaller yet intimidating waterfalls (the angle in the photo does not reflect the view from the top or the amplified depth those of us like myself see with our fear of heights).
As a predominantely Bhuddist country, there were monks in abundance. One morning, Teri and Steph woke up early to see them collecting their alms at an ungodly hour (5 or 6 something… anything before 7 I cannot comprehend). Also common in this region of the world are outdoor markets selling anything from clothing to food to jewerly, lamps, and souvenirs. The night market pictured below is from Luang Prabang.
All in all, it was a great month of ministry. I wish I could share details but it simply is not permissable as Laos is a closed country and it could put our ministry contact and their ministry in a bad position. Thank you for all of your prayers this month. Our team was diligent in praying about our decisions in regards to where God was leading, which ministry, and our involvement and He blessed us in abundance. It was an amazing month that showed us how when we are obedient, He is faithful.
