Hey y’all, I’m Samantha but you can probably call me Sam (or Sammy, if you wish.) Thank you so much for joining me on this adventure!
I’m 25 years young, though I realize that I look like I’m about 17.
I’m a born and raised Minnesotan, which means I love hockey (go UND!), canoeing the Boundary Waters, and subzero winter temperatures (that part is a joke.) I grew up with two older brothers, which I always say made me tough!
After high school, I headed west for college in the last best place: Montana. I attended a very small university where I studied Equine Studies, Business Management, and Communication Studies. I LOVED my school and the friends I made there, and it was in this place that I truly finally gave my life to Jesus.
Before the race, I lived and worked year-round on a dude ranch in beautiful Moran, Wyoming. If you’ve never seen the Grand Tetons, you’re really missing out! My coworkers included a wonderful group of humans and a crazy, sweet herd of about 100 horses & mules. I’ve ridden horses for more than 10 years and I can’t believe I’ve been blessed enough to actually get paid for it!
Other things you may or may not want to know about me…
- I love swing dancing! It’s the only type of dancing that I’m decent at.
- Sunflowers are my favorite flower.
- On that note, yellow is my favorite color. It’s just so dang happy.
- I played the piano for 12 years, and the cello for 8. Most recently, I’ve picked up the guitar. My guitars name is Guinevere.
- I spent the summer of 2013 in Kenya and it was the hardest and best thing I’ve done in my life to this point.
- Dark chocolate covered pretzels are the key to my heart.
- I love animals. A lot. Horses, dogs, cats, elephants, cows… I don’t think you understand. I really, really love them.
- I spent a couple summers working at a Lutheran summer camp in northern MN–another thing I can’t believe I got paid for. So fun! I think outdoor ministry is my biggest passion.
- The World Race has been on my heart for a long time now, and I’m SO excited to finally be doin’ the dang thing! God is so good. For real.
