Hey everyone! Just a recap of this month's experience. π Enjoy!
-
Men often carry purses for their girlfriends/wives.
-
Wedding bands are worn on the right hands.
-
Soft-serve ice cream is only $0.50 … dangerous.
-
Jigsaw puzzles are a great way to break through language barriers — one of the young boys at First Step & I put together many puzzles this month. π
-
Appartently God wants me to be a gardener…
-
When I mixed up Opera House times, we ended up seeing the opera, La Traviata instead of the ballet, The Nutcracker. Of course we didn’t discover this until we were in the opera house watching it…
-
Gnomeo and Juliet is a funny movie — even if it was in Russian.
-
Apparently mullets are the style here — for both men & women. Perfect.

-
Ukraine has a ton of history when it comes to WWII stuff. pretty cool.
-
Toilets are different here — the hole that is in the back of the toilet in America is actually in the front… kind of awkward…
-
Accordion man is one of the cutest old men I have ever met.
-
When it comes to fashion, anything goes here — the shorter & tighter, apparently the better. Olivet dress code will be a breath of fresh air for me. π
-
The first Russian words I learned? Ice cream. Thank you. I’m sorry. — those may be the only words I will remember.
-
The Black Sea is pretty cool to swim in.
-
Ukrainians build stronger buildings than Americans…or so I was told by one of the First Step guys.
-
Odessa, Ukraine is my favorite World Race city.
-
Hearing American English … well, any English at all, has become a rarity and a comfort to me all at the same time.
-
Pickle soup is a frequent lunch here…which is perfect because I do not like pickles at all. Oh the things we eat on the World Race. π
-
Ukraine food [minus pickle soup] is actually really good. Lots of good breads, soups, and pasta dishes — definitely a good change from the white rice I have eaten for the past 9 months.
-
Ukrainians love 3 things. Ice cream. Chocolate. Beer. Beginning at 9am, you can see people walking around with any combination of these 3 things.

- Russian music is not as bad as I would have imagined… our end of the month video will have one of the songs we listen to daily.
