It started with a “prophetic” word.

It continued as a joke – a way of laughing at my lack of public speaking skills.

It ended with a nickname.

They call me PW.

Pastor’s Wife.

Our last night in Rwanda, Pastor G went around the room and gave each of us a prophetic word about our roles in ministry. He told Amber she would live a life of mission work. He said that Laura would be a pastor… and then he turned to me. He said, “Mbabazi, you will be a pastor’s wife.”

I laugh about that. I think it’s funny. Apparently I do not speak eloquently enough to be a preacher or a pastor. I will just be a pastor’s wife. [I’m hoping he really meant that I’m a good supporter or something positive like that…]

Our first night in Uganda. Laura, because she is our leader, was asked to preach for an hour. Because she was put on the spot, she spoke for about 35 minutes & then threw the rest of us under the bus and told the congregation that we each had something to share.

Amber went first. She spoke about her first stay in Uganda. JD followed her. He is a great preacher and spoke with power. I volunteered to go next. Because JD is the hardest person EVER to follow, I decided to joke around a bit. I explained that I am not a preacher or a pastor. I told them about the prophesy our Pastor G had given me.

“I am not a great speaker like JD. In Rwanda, my teammates were told they would be pastors. I was told I would be a pastor’s wife.”

They laughed. I laughed. Until after the service —

Several women told me that they were going to call me “Mrs. Pastor” or “PW.”  One PW actually gave me an “anointing” and explained that behind every strong pastor is a strong pastor’s wife. I like that. Others told me that I look like a pastor’s wife. They told me that I have the characteristics and mannerisms of a pastor’s wife — whatever that means. I was having fun with it.

The best part? I have had more than one single pastor approach me and let me know that he is a pastor… hmm…

Grandma — it looks like we will need to have a heart-to-heart so I can learn a few pointers on what it’s like to be a pastor’s wife. 🙂
