…oh wait. we’re still here.
This past week has been … LONG … to say the least.
Our first Malaysian ministry contact, Janet, was only available to host us for two weeks. Last Tuesday, my team “shifted” to the Island of Penang to meet up with Team Gozo and spend our last 9 days doing ministry on this island.
Penang really feels like a completely different country. At one point during debrief last week, I caught myself saying, “When we were in Malaysia…” Yep. We’re still here.
Our former ministry was AMAZING. We stayed at the House of Timothy, did a hodge-podge of ministry, and worshiped – 24/7. The Spirit was definitely alive & running within all of us. Janet was constantly singing, praising, speaking truth, and even playing her tambourine – no matter where we were.
At first, I thought it was really weird. Seriously. Do you HAVE to sing & clap the entire 90 minute van ride? But then it became contagious. I want to be like that. I want to live in a constant state of worship. I want to sing praises to my King each & every day – all day long – & not care what other people think of me.

I miss Janet. I miss the House of Timothy. It’s nice here on the island, but it is so different. We do not have the constant encouragement and worship around us. Our ministry is a lot different.
We are working at a homeless drop-in center called Kawan. We serve breakfast & lunch and just hang out with the people who come. Kawan also offers showers, resting places, and clean clothes.

I have spent most of my Kawan time at the Kawan Shop – a thrift store used to employ street people to give them work experience, and to make a little money for the Kawan ministry. It’s pretty cool, actually. I have been ironing for HOURS at a time. Ironing is actually quite relaxing & I have had quite a bit of time to just reflect and process this crazy Malaysian experience. [Thank you, Grandma Larimore for teaching me how to iron!]
We will leave the island on Thursday morning and travel to Kuala Lumpur where we will meet up with a few other teams on our squad before heading to Thailand on Saturday. Prayers for traveling mercies would be AWESOME! 🙂
Love ya!
