Hey yall! My name is Samantha Fridd, but anyone who knows me will tell ya it’s just Sam (it’s more fitting believe me). I’m 23 years old from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. Although I love these mountains and couldn’t be prouder to be raised in a place where southern hospitality is a way of life, I love to travel! Learning about different cultures through personal experiences is a passion that makes my soul smile.
These mountains are my home…and yes I took this picture ๐
I have been so blessed with an amazing family full of hardworking men and strong willed women. I have the two best parents anyone could ask for. They have always been there to support me, from countless swim meets to fiddle concerts. My parents have always been front row and the loudest cheerers (you think I’m kidding…). Although I know at this time they are not completely on board with the idea of their little girl traveling the world for 11 months, I do know that they are in full support of what ever makes me happy (they’ll come around). I also have a big brother (27), that is a perfect role model for anyone. I know I can count on him for anything and he is as excited for me as I am about the World Race. Aside from the family God blessed me with, I have a close chosen family of friends, who without their support wouldn’t have made it this far. I have the best friends in the world.
My wonderful parents. My brother Josh and me! (goofy as always)
I graduated from Mars Hill College May 2009, where I was on a swimming scholarship and completed a major in Special Education in the General Curriculum. Many life circumstances led to me choosing Special Education, and there is no denying teaching is the calling God planned for me. Being a special education teacher has been the most rewarding experience of my life. Now that I have had the experiences of being a teacher for a year, God has called me and directed me on a new path, a missionary path. I believe He has instilled a passion in me to spread his love by teaching and helping others that now, extends beyond the boundaries of my classroom walls to across the world.
I believe my World Race journey has already begun with the emotional rollercoaster I’ve endured since my initial application, but I am so excited to begin the travel, with God leading the way. I come with no expectations, but as a clean slate ready for anything He has in store for us all.
