Mom and Dad,
thanks. For all your support and your help in my education and in teaching me
about God and life and giving me freedom to live. The other night, I gave a
lecture to the parents at a “daycare where I help teach English. The topic was
how parents in America help with the education of their children. And of
course, I being homeschooled and not disliking public speaking (thanks to all
those passionately hated speech classes), was the perfect candidate 😛 All I could think of
as I sat in the chair up front with my translator was, “Mom, you’d love
to hear every word that’s coming out of my mouth right now.â€ In hindsight, I probably should have
asked someone to record it for you so you and dad could use it as blackmail in
the future when I deny saying any of those wonderful things about how much you
helped, encouraged, and supported me. But it was really cool, too, the way God
ended up using it. I wasn’t technically supposed to talk about God but some of
the parents asked what I was taught and what rules you set down for me so I was
able to tell them a little about being a Christian and growing up with those
morals and God. In essence, told them to teach them responsibility and wise
decision-making, to be firm but supportive, to encourage curiosity and thorough
learning, and to not let them quit on music or a second language. Sooo I guess
I just wanted to publicly say thank you to both of you for everything you’ve
endured from and done for me. And hey, next time around,
no matter how stubborn I am, no matter how much I argue and fight against it, can you make sure that I learn to speak Chinese and
play the piano? Thanks!
