So as I sit down to write this section, I think of all the people that I know, but also many that I don't know, that may stumble across this. I've been sort of a World Race blog stalker for the past three months, so I'm guessing there's gonna be a good handful of people that read this but have never met me. So hello!!
My name is Rose. (duh). I'm from Minnesota. And Iowa. (I lived in both for a long time and I claim both. Don't hate, the Midwest is the greatest part of America. This is true.) I went to school at Arcadia University in Glenside, PA, which is right outside of Philly. I've always loved people and cultures but more recently have learned to love media and communications, so I majored in Global Media and minored in Sociology. My schooling was actually FUN! π
Pretty much anyone who knows anything about me knows I love to travel. I've been so blessed with the opportunity to study abroad three times and visit a bunch of countries on five continents, and I'm only 22! Thank you Jesus!! (And mom and dad π ) Recently I realized that getting to do all this traveling is fun, but it's pretty meaningless when you aren't serving the Lord. So I decided to change that.
Hence, the World Race.
I'm super excited to meet my team, contacts, and all of God's children around the world!
I've always had a huge heart for impoverished nations. Those commercials with orphans walking in dumps make me sad, the stories of trafficking stick with me, and I've stumbled across countless books, starting in about 6th grade, that have told stories of famines, slavery, poverty, and more. I know a lot of people have read those books and seen those images, but I just can't forget about them. So I want to do something, and my continuous yearning to do something has never stopped. This is one reason that I know God has put it in my heart to do mission right now. This is one of my favorite quotes:
"I am only one but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." Edward Everett Hale
A few other things about me:
I love to dance, take photos, make videos, and hear people's stories.
I LOVE chocolate. Swiss chocolate is my favorite. Seriously, no one can do it like the Swiss can.
I don't make plans, I just sort of fly by the seat of my pants. Some people aren't too fond of this, but it always works out for me. One of my friends once said to me, "Wait, are you coming or not? I can't tell. You're being horribly vague." This is kind of how I roll.
It's pretty hard to really offend me unless you say something uneducated about the Midwest. I know most of you haven't been there and think it's just flyover land anyway, so wait to form an opinion until you come visit me π
I somehow find myself in a lot of situations where I just think, "Well, it will make for a good story later!"
I have an awesome family that says and does the funniest things. My dad studies rocks, my mom's job is to be in charge of tons of people, one of my sisters is going to be nurse, and my other sister is going to be the next Weird Al. Seriously. Sometimes we bicker but I love them a lot, and am so glad that they support me going on the race. My sisters' names are Ivy and Willow. No, my parents are not botanists or hippies, they are just creative and awesome π
My favorite verse is this:
John 16:33
"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! For I have conquered the world."
Awesome, God. So awesome.
