Around 6:15 AM I wake up. No alarm went off and nothing specific woke me other than my body being use to waking early. I “get up” which means I check to see if the wifi is working from under my covers. It’s way too cold in our ice castle guesthouse to remove the warmth of the covers.
This particular morning I pray for a while still buried in my covers. Around 7:15 AM I finally move to the sitting position with the majority of my body still covered. (It’s cold. Really cold.) I dive into my devos, journal, and the Bible.
At 8:00 AM I, along with the rest of my team and Team Leo, make our way up to the 4th floor to our dining room for breakfast. This morning breakfast is a pancake of sorts with a potato-chickpea curry soup. It’s different everyday and yet, still the same.
At breakfast we learn what our day will look like. Much like the food, everyday is different and yet, still the same. Today we walk about 40 minutes to the Monkey Temple to do some prayer walk and evangelism at the temple. We spend about an hour at the temple and then leave in order to get back to our guesthouse for lunch at 1:00 PM.
After lunch, we find out today we get to do “sports ministry.” We walk to the bus stop 20 minutes away, ride a bus for 30-40 minutes, get off and walk another 10 minutes to the school.
There we see several high school aged boys on a basketball court. Luckily, they cleared the court and some middle school aged girls arrived. We started to play a game as we waited for further instructions and information. A few minutes later, we found out that our ministry would be a basketball scrimmage against the middle school girls and their coaches.
It’s the World Race.
We had a blast running around shooting hoops, but in the end we lost: 54-22.
At times during the game all I had to do was hold the ball over my head and no one on the other team could reach it. That offensive strategy didn’t work in the end.
We rode a bus back to our guesthouse, ate dinner at 7:00 pm, and then got into bed. After dinner I get back under the covers because, you guessed it, it’s cold! I usually end up falling asleep early, around 8:00-8:30 PM. Tonight I finish the last 60 pages of the book I’m reading before falling asleep around 10:00 PM.
It’s been a great month of ministry with a different schedule and ministry each day. It’s also been a super difficult, tiring month.
In just a few days, Q squad has a debrief in Kathmandu just a few feet from where we’ve been living all month. From there, we will travel to Romania.
And, the best part, I get to see my parents on the 4th of March! I’m super excited to have them be a part of my race even more.
