Imagine killing four chickens, plucking said chickens, butchering those same chickens, preparing and cooking 2 meals for about 20 people, going to the market to buy fruits and snacks, setting up a shop to sell the fruits and snacks to the students that come to school, teaching English to 20-30 preschoolers (ages 3-11 years old) each day for 2 hours, going to an English class for an hour, doing laundry for up to 7 people or more, taking care of a younger cousin, and in your free time braiding hair. All in one day.
Welcome to the life of Kevin.
Did I mention Kevin is 13?
Kevin is one of my favorite boys this month. Not only because he does all the things, but because he is so adorable! At least once a day he tells me I’m beautiful followed by the biggest smile and sometimes a serenade.
There is a running joke that when Kevin grows up he’s going to run Cambodia and possibly even the world.
Whenever I have a question I ask Kevin. We understand each other for the most part even though some things are lost in translation.
Kevin is one of the boys Vuthy, our ministry contact, has adopted. He has family, but for one reason or another, Vuthy has taken Kevin in.
I can’t imagine this month, Cambodia, and my race without Kevin.
