Let me give you a little breakdown of what we’ve been doing this month before I go any further. We wake up every morning and have a worship session and either devotion or intercession at 8 a.m. Then at 9 a.m. we go to a local village and spend time with the children there, just loving them. We head back to our base and have lunch around noon. Then at 3 p.m. a couple of my teammates hold a bible study till 4 p.m. From 4-6 there are English classes and guitar classes. I am in charge of the guitar classes. That’s been interesting seeing as how I could barely change from chord to chord coming in this month. But I’ve gotten between one and two hours of practice daily so I’ve been improving steadily. Then we have dinner at night and team time before our night is free. That’s pretty much the schedule.
Back to the children! Yes, we have been going and playing with kids. But how can we do more for them? How can we leave an impact on their lives? One battle has been the language barrier. Pretty much none of the kids speak any English. So sharing the gospel with them is pretty much impossible. And even if we got a translator it would be hard for them to understand what we were talking about. Our team has come to the conclusion that we need to bless them in a way that physically shows them the love of Christ.
What does that entail? Well, we’re not exactly sure. Possibly bringing a meal to some of the families. Possibly bringing first aid to clean up many of the wounds the children are bearing. There are so many possibilities. But we can’t just do nothing!
These kids have taken my heart. Some are starving. Some are really sick. Some are injured. Some don’t have parents. One thing God has taught me this month is that it is up to us to go above and beyond throughout this race. Our contacts in each country do a fantastic job of putting together ministry for us. But there is potential for us to do so much more. And that is exactly what our team is being called to do. Now we just have to set it into motion. God is faithful. God does not place a calling on your heart without giving you a means to accomplish what He’s called you to do.
This is our last week in Kampong Cham. This month has flown by. We are going to make this last week the most impactful! We are going to truly show the love of Christ to these children!
