Kairos: The time of possibility. The moments in our lifetime that define us. It is a crossroads. It has the ripe opportunity to make you bitter or better. It is a teachable moment. It is the right or opportune moment. They are rarely neutral and always leave an impact on us. It’s the time of God’s activity. The appointed time in the purpose of God. The time when God acts. They force us to be present to ourselves and to God.
People have asked that I write about my team, Kairos, since they enjoyed reading about my last team, Fearless Laughter. So without further ado, here they are:
Adrienne: Our sweet Mama A. We always joke that Adrienne and Rocky were meant to be on a team together. Sometimes I call her name with my best Sylvester Stallone impression. She is one of the most selfless people you’ll meet as she is always thinking of others. I’ve never seen helping and serving come so naturally to a person as this girl. She hasn’t been a cheerleader since high school, but you can tell it’s in her blood. Cheering people on and encouraging others is something she loves to do. Sometimes she makes up cheers for us when we need a little push. She’s an easy team leader to follow because she always has our best interest in mind. She has so much confidence, can talk to anyone, and is easy to talk to. If you ever have the pleasure of meeting this Louisiana girl, make sure you hear her read the Cajun version of “Twas the night Before Christmas,” it’s worth your time.
Adri: Our favorite Costa Rican! Without her, team Kairos would be just a bunch of white people. She is one of the most expressive people you will meet. She gets so genuinely excited about things and finds beauty in the things that would normally be overlooked. You can almost always hear her yelling something like, “Oh my word! It’s so beautiful!” or “That’s my favorite!” (Just a heads up if you ever meet her, EVERYTHING is her favorite). She has such an established identity in the Lord and unapallagetically follows Him. She is so excited about what God has done in her life that she shares it with anyone who will listen with boldness and complete confidence in who her God is. She loves the people around her so much and so well. She brings so much joy and laughter to our team and we are so glad to have her.
Jordan: She is the first “Storyteller” for the World Race, a recently created position, and for good reason. She loves telling stories, listening to others’ stories, and making sure that the best stories are made known to the world. She’s also the kind of person that has crazy stories that only happen to her, which always gives our team a good laugh. When she speaks to others, life spills from her. You can see the immensity that she loves others when she interacts with them. She is always looking for creative ways to use her talents to help others. She dreams big and she goes for it. She puts so much passion into everything she does. We love what she brings to team Kairos.
Lauren: I can always count on this girl when I want to geek out about something (Once Upon a Time, Lord of the Rings, etc.). She is confident in who she is but also always looks for ways to become a more Godly woman. She always has a smile on her face and joy spills from her to others. She has a lot of sass and likes to live life to the fullest. She has a lot of wisdom to share and is very caring of others. Gentlemen, if you wish to pursue this girl’s heart, come bearing flowers and salty popcorn, she’ll love you forever.
Meggy and Shanny Pants you already know (you may not have known until just now that that’s what I call them, but now you do): we all had tears of joy when we found out we were still on a team together. Megan and I love laughing at how different we can be from each other and how often we find random similarities. I was so glad to have more time with her because she’s so real and easy to have a deep and meaningful conversation with. Our team enjoys her goofy side and I love having someone I can get excited about art with. I was so glad to have more time with Shannon as well. We have such great traditions, so it would have been sad if we had only had 4 months together. We are bus buddies and, if you remember my very first blog on the field, we always have 4:30 cracker time and play the thankful game if we’re on a bus at that time. We also drink Coca-Cola in a cool place in every country. We’ve had Coke on the salt flats of Bolivia, the beach in Peru, the equator in Ecuador, an underground salt cathedral in Colombia, in front of the Osaka castle in Japan, and in front of the Patronos towers in Malaysia. She’s a true companion and I could not imagine my World Race without all the laughter I’ve shared with her. Her friendship is something I greatly cherish and I love knowing I can always count on her.
