About 3 babies are abandoned every single day in the city of Johannesburg aloneWhen they’re found, they come to Door of Hope, which is where my team is for our last month on the field.  We live in a house full of little babies, big babies, and toddlers.  For 3 weeks we get to love, hold, feed, and change these precious children while they await to be adopted.  Taking care of babies is one of my favorite ministries so far and it was also a ministry that came at a great time.  You see, I have one sibling and she just had her first child on March 31.  Missing my nephew’s birth and not being able to hug and kiss him the first two months of his life was hard for me to accept.  Looking at it now, I see that my nephew has so many family members and friends to love and spoil him.  Right now, though, there are a bunch of babies who don’t have the same circumstances.  They need people to come and give their time so that they can know they’re loved and that they matter.  They need someone to volunteer so they can have a future.  I feel so honored to be one of those people.  I’m excited for my “Auntie duties” when I get home, but here in South Africa, there are a bunch of toddlers who already call me “Auntie” every day.  Being away from home during month 11 is a whole lot easier when I can see how much I’m needed here…and when it’s so much fun.
