Have you ever told God you would never do something and then He asks you to do that thing?  Have you ever told God you would never go somewhere and that ends up being where He calls you to be?  Have you ever felt like God made it so you had to take the hard route, the right route, when you were planning on taking the easy way?  If you have ever tried to tell God what YOUR plans were, then I know you definitely have had this experience.  However, God’s plans are always better and we always end up being blessed for following them, even if it’s the exact opposite of what we wanted.

I told you a few weeks ago that my route had changed.  I was supposed to go to Puerto Rico and Vietnam.  Puerto Rico was going to be the first country I was supposed to go to and I was really happy about that.  I have been to Costa Rica a few times in high school so I felt like Puerto Rico would not be too much of a culture shock to me and it would be a good starter country.  I felt like it was a good country to help me transition into this whole crazy trip.  A few weeks after being accepted to the July World Race route that I had intentionally applied for, I found out I was going to Colombia and Japan instead of Puerto Rico and Vietnam.  Um, yeah…funny story about Colombia for me…

I went to a Christian high school and we had chapel every Wednesday.  There was one chapel we had where we watched a sort of documentary about these missionaries who went to Colombia.  I don’t remember a whole lot about the video, I just remember being absolutely terrified.  The missionaries were all in danger a few times and I remember thinking, “Remind me to NEVER go to Colombia.”  Had Colombia been originally listed for the route I probably wouldn’t have applied for it...God’s sense of humor is annoying like that sometimes.

Colombia will be the first country we’re going to and we will be the first World Race squad to go there.  You know that whole “easy start” thing I was looking forward to?  Nope!  Instead I’ll be letting go, jumping all in, and trusting God completely.  I suppose that was God’s plan all along.  If I’m starting off this trip completely looking to God to handle everything right off the bat, then I can see what amazing things can happen when I am weak and He is strong.  When I see these incredible things happen, I’ll be more likely to continue to do it in the remaining 10 countries after.  God has me going to Colombia for a reason and I am so excited to see what that reason is!
