India was an interesting month for me. Interesting enough that I avoided writing a blog about it.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved India. Our ministry, Sarah’s Covenant Home, was amazing. But the overall vibe of India left me disgruntled and confused. See, India still follows the caste system. Although this system may not be part of the law anymore, it is still very much part of the Indian culture.
It was infuriating. I couldn’t believe the things I heard higher caste system members say about the lower castes.
I was so sick of it. I was sick that these people were living in such strong bondage. These people deserved to experience freedom. Experience the freedom that Christ offers.
Because in Christ there is no caste. We were all created and are treated as equals. We have even been given the title of co-heirs with Christ.
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Romans 8:17
God allows us to stand alongside Jesus in our inheritance. It’s the greatest, most humbling thing that none of us deserve. But that’s exactly what makes it so great. We don’t deserve it yet it is given freely and abundantly. And it’s our responsibility that we reveal this knowledge to others so that they may also access this equality.
So now I ask that you keep India in your prayers as they struggle to find out what freedom looks like and how Christ can offer that freedom.
