Meet my sister, Kathryn.

I don’t know why I feel the need to make an introduction as she has most likely already found her way into many of your hearts. She’s hard to miss. Whether she’s quoting a Full House, Saved by the Bell or Boy Meets World line, cheering on her beloved Sooners or breaking it down in the middle of a dance floor – she does everything with a heart full of love. She will love you the moment she meets you and continue this love when you may not even deserve it.

Kathryn is the perfect example of Matthew 18:3 –

Jesus says, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you change and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Her love is pure and honest. Her child-like faith allows her to see all the goodness in the world. We should all strive to be more like Kathryn.

So today is a special day. a day where I encourage each and every one of you to take a stand. Take a stand for those who can’t stand for themselves. Take a stand for those whose love is unconditional. Take a stand for those whose hearts are inspiring. Today is the day to spread the word to end the word. And that word is retarded. When you use that word you are saying that something is dumb, weird, or stupid. But what I’m hearing is “that’s so Kathryn”. I’m sure you don’t mean it like that, but it’s what you are saying. It’s may be a habit that you don’t even think about. But when you, my educated friends, use it in casual conversation you’re making it OK. You’re telling your friends, children and grandchildren it is acceptable. Tacitly, but you are still sending that message. So do your part to help the world be filled with more Kathryns and stop using that word.
