Matthew 14:22-33
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,”he said, “why did you doubt?”
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
What if Peter had said “no thanks” to Jesus’ invitation to walk on the water to meet Him? He never would have experienced the miracle of God’s Almighty power. He never would have understood just how Great the man he had agreed to follow was! However, not only did Peter accept Jesus’ invitation, Peter was the one that originally called out “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” And when He called, Peter went. Because of his bravery, great things happened. However, Peter also learned in order to do great things they must be done through Him. Once Peter lost focus of that, he started to sink. Thankfully Jesus was there to catch him. Thankfully Jesus is always there to catch us.
So friends, it is with great excitement that I announce that the Lord has called me out onto the water. I will be joining the World Race in August of 2016 for an 11 month ministry adventure to 11 different countries.
This year sure has been a whirlwind. But the Lord has graciously taught me so much and I’m so thankful to have this opportunity to share the Gospel with those across the nations. He has picked me back up when I stumbled (or even fell flat on my face). He has embraced me even when I thought I didn’t need Him. He has loved me even when I did not love myself.
Now I have the chance to love the orphaned, the widowed, the used and abused and even their abusers. I will have the chance to see Him lift up leaders and create light in dark places.
So I ask that you would please pray for my team and I as we prepare for this journey. Pray that we would keep our eyes on God so that we may not sink into the dark waters. I ask for favor and open hearts and minds. I pray for the bravery of Peter to ask for the unthinkable and for the world to be changed. Because it is through Him and Him alone, that we are able to make a change.
Look out world!! I’m coming for ya!!
