Hey family!
So I met with a mentor of mine yesterday to fill her in on training camp and she totally touched on our goal for the next two months and spoke some truth into me. Like Allan said, our first two months are here. Wherever here is for you doesn’t matter, because we all share a common goal, which is ultimately to bring the truths of the Gospel and God’s love with us wherever we go. My friend Ellen immediately said I don’t need to lose this passion. I don’t need to count down the days until October, but instead should make the most of each day I have until then. Being the wise one she is, she immediately spouted out John 4:35 which says,
“Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
Jesus is clearly stating there is a continual harvest to be reaped at all times. In my eyes this verse means that sometimes as Christians we make excuses for not witnessing. Maybe we use the excuse that our family, friends, or people we see on an everyday basis “aren’t ready”. Or maybe that our actions are enough, or vice versa with our words. Aren’t these the people we claim to care the most about though? Let’s show them we are different and that we have no intentions of ever being the same again. Let’s show them through our actions and let them hear it in our words.
I know we are all stoked and ready to start planting, sowing, and reaping seeds amongst the nations, so let’s not lose this burning passion we have inside of us. There is obviously no reason why we should put these things off [for two months]. Also, what if some of us were called to do the race solely because some of the people closest to us will experience growth from it? Just a thought. All of this is easier said than done I know, so I am going to be adamant about preaching this verse to myself on a daily basis. I always enjoy having a good verse to back things up with you know? So in nerd-like fashion, I have already written it on my dry-erase board. (don’t hate)
My study Bible says, “Look around. You will find people ready to hear God’s Word.” Let’s slow down, take our blinders off and look around so we may see those who are ready to hear God’s Word, who are yearning to feel His love, and who need to experience the freedom we have gained. We have already found the answer to the whisper inside of us . . so let’s help people find the answers to theirs.
