We’ve had a lot of variety this month, which isn’t very
common on the World Race.  Typically each
month we have a repetitious and routine schedule, working within the confines of one
property or place, and even eating the same food day in and day out.  Here in Cambodia, this is not the case.  Our ministry looks different each day
including lots of driving to and from home visits, village bible studies, kid’s
clubs, English classes and health clinics. As for food, our wonderful host and creative chef
Sam-ole serves us at least two new and amazing dishes each meal.  We’ve never eaten so well on the Race or had
so many options.

When our squad leader asked me my favorite part of the month
it took me awhile because I had so much to choose from.  After much thought, I realized the times I
feel the most joy this month are when we are driving to any of our many
destinations in the custom Tuk Tuk .  I
like to sit towards the back where I can smile and wave at all the people we
pass in the villages or riding on bikes and on motos.

I’ve come to believe a simple smile and a wave can change a
life.  Seeing their excited reaction and
return of my smiles and my waves from the back of the Tuk Tuk feels like an exchange
of LOVE.  Even if only for a second, I
think smiling and waving at these beautiful people here in Cambodia shows them
there is someone out there who LOVES them more than they can possibly
imagine.  There is someone who cares for
them, wants to know them personally, wants to protect and provide for
them.  I believe the smiles and the waves
give a small glimpse of greater love, God’s LOVE.

So I guess I’ve finally fully embraced God’s ability to work
in the smallest of ways I will never completely comprehend.  I’ve let go of my need to make “God things”
happen, to make maximum impact, to efficiently and effectively use my time, or even
to question God’s purposes AND instead just TRUST He is ALWAYS working. All I
need to do is obediently seek and follow HIM daily and relish the moments of
JOY He gives me, like in the back of a Tuk Tuk.

I welcome more of these moments of JOY, so I will continue
to let God LOVE through me at home visits, bible studies, English classes and
also from the back of the Tuk Tuk.
