When we woke at 5:30AM on
Monday we weren’t expecting to find a practical
application for the morning
devotion/bible study of the “Do Not Worry” passages of Matthew 6.

Due to the heavy rains
bugs with big wings were all over the property.
Most of the bugs were grounded
because their wings got wet in the moist
morning air.  Immobilized they became
prey for the ducks, chickens, and cats that must’ve gorged themselves during
the night because bug wing remains blanketed areas of the yard.  Some bugs did escape the damp weather and
were frantically flying around until another predator, ravens and other large
birds, swooped down to gobble them up in mid-air.  Even John, our contact, seemed amazed as we
watched the feeding frenzy around the volleyball court.  Lasting only a few minutes, this rare
occurrence happened at the perfect time, as John prepared to share with the
boys how Jesus tells us not to worry about what to eat or what to wear and
trust God will provide.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or
reap or store away in barns and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.”
Matthew 6:26

While digesting both the
oatmeal and the verses from Matthew 6, the boys excitedly asked John if, like
the ducks, chickens, and cats, they could also eat the bugs with big
wings.  With bible in hand, John pointed
them to Leviticus 11:20…

All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be
detestable to you.  There are, however,
some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have
jointed legs for hopping on the ground.
Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket, or
grasshopper.

…and gave them the thumbs
up to eat grasshoppers.  The rest of the
morning the boys kept busy catching, cooking, and eating grasshoppers.  I’d like to believe they were also busy appreciating
all that God provides for them here at Kedesh!

Thankfully the boys have
never gone hungry, especially now they’ve discovered a new favorite treat.  God continues to provide for Kedesh using
generous donations from faithful supporters.
