“An Unforgettable Experience”
is the phrase used on the front of the Monte Blanco brochure, our new ministry site this month in Bolivia. About 143 miles from Santa Cruz (the largest
city in Bolivia) and 9 miles from Comarapa, tucked away in the mountains, Monte
Blanco (MB) is a little piece of heaven.
Also described as a “Centro de
Desarrollo Humano” (a center for human development), MB is a camp for high
school students desiring to know more about Jesus Christ. Groups of 150-300 students/campers from Santa
Cruz and surrounding areas visit for two nights and three days of nature and
adventure with Gospel messages woven throughout their stay.
My team is serving in the kitchen of MB, helping the 4-6
women who permanently live and work at the camp. Most of the women serve up BIG personalities
with an extra side of JOY. Their day
starts at 4AM with chopping, peeling, marinating, juicing, mixing, frying, and
much more ALL day long until 9PM. In
addition to the many tasks involved in feeding 150-300 campers, these
hard-working women make sure to add in oodles of amusement. Practical jokes including locking us in the
freezer, snapping
our butts with towels, hiding around corners to scare us,
taping tails on our backs, anything for a good laugh is permanently part of the
menu at MB. It is only day three and we’ve
had many portions of ENTERTAINMENT & FUN!
campers’ hunger for Christ, I pray we are a blessing to the tireless staff at
Monte Blanco who offer new life and unending love to hundreds of teenagers each
month. Like many of the students/campers,
I’m already seeing God in new ways at Monte Blanco. I am thankful for a God who rejoices when we
laugh, love and live in His name.
