We just completed our travel days from Lima, Peru to Tambo, Bolivia.
We traveled via “autobus” for a little
over 52 hours, not counting a two-night pit stop in beautiful Puno, Peru to see
Lake Titicaca.  I imagine most people
would never choose to drive 52 hours in a public bus, even our new Bolivian
contacts questioned the logic, but I found several benefits of road-tripping
through South America:

1)
Probably the most obvious, long stretches of
God’s beautiful creation you would never see traveling by plane.

2)
For those of us not too fond of airplanes (i.e. Jami
V.), there is almost no anxiousness traveling via bus other than keeping an eye on your
carry-on bags during the overnight legs.

3)
With 11 months worth of personal items stuffed
in one backpack, you don’t have to worry about exceeding the airline’s 50,
sometimes 40lb. baggage weight limit.

4)
With limited stops, you can’t eat three HUGE
meals a day and instead must rely on a few familiar snacks (PB&J) – a
welcomed break from white rice.

5)
PLENTY of time to reminisce and recap with other
squad members, along with read, relax, rest, and recharge.

Would you consider trading in the ease and convenience of
flying with an opportunity to experience life on the road?  It really ain’t that bad!
